Professional Consultation and Training
Welcome! I’m Elle Winterwood, and I offer clinical consultation services for mental health providers of all backgrounds, as well as trainings for organizations in my areas of expertise. My approach is collaborative and responsive—always shaped by your specific goals, questions, and context.
Areas of Expertise
My consultation is designed for therapists who are specializing, deepening expertise, or seeking nuanced support in complex areas of clinical work and practice leadership. My consultation and training integrates clinical expertise with ongoing scholarship including clinical research and publication.
Developmental Trauma Healing: Refine your work with early relational trauma, including complex PTSD, religious trauma, and adult children of narcissistic, borderline, or emotionally dysregulated parents—always honoring complexity, resilience, and trauma-informed care.
Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP)-informed consultation: Receive consultation grounded in FAP’s relational approach—attuned to intersectionality, functional analysis, and in-session feedback—and focused on the therapeutic relationship as a living, transformative space. Whether new to FAP or deepening your practice, we’ll explore the aliveness between you and your clients together. Please note I am currently working toward certification as a FAP Consultant and Trainer. I cannot provide consultation that counts toward certification at this time.
Neuro-affirming Therapy: Collaborate on case conceptualization, interventions, or supervision strategies for neurodivergent adults and caregivers of neurodivergent children, rooted in regulation, empowerment, and anti-pathology frameworks.
LGBTQIA-affirming Therapy: Enhance your work with queer and trans individuals (both supervisees and clients), with particular expertise supporting parents of young transgender children through early transitions, advocacy, and strengthening family and community connections.
Feminist Therapy: Engage with consultation, supervision-of-supervision or group training exploring how power, trauma—including racialized and intergenerational—and identity shape your clinical and supervisory relationships. Offerings grounded in relational justice, liberation, and collective wisdom.
Group Practice / Entrepreneurial Support: I understand the weight of running a practice—wearing many hats and managing burnout. Whether you’re reimagining your role, facing difficult clinical or staff challenges, or deciding whether to open, close, or shift your practice, I offer experienced, nonjudgmental guidance to help you reconnect with your purpose and sustainability.
Benefits of Consultation
Attune to your own needs: Use this time to explore your fears, doubts, ask questions, and sort through your own “stuff.” This is your dedicated space.
Deepen your practice: Receive guidance and insight that takes you beyond what you can reach on your own, grounded in my clinical expertise.
Grow your skills: Try on new ideas and practice approaches together in real time, in a supportive, collaborative space.
Wider perspective: Benefit from my diverse experience as a supervisor, former group practice owner, clinical director, researcher, board member, organizational consultant, supervisor, and trainer. Let my lived experience as a queer, neurodivergent human be a bridge for your understanding as applicable.
Flexible Scheduling: Tailor consultation frequency to your needs, whether regular or on an as-needed basis.
How I’m Different
“We’re all in the soup together.”
My first mentor said this to me nearly 25 years ago. I think about it almost every week with my own clients, with supervisees, or in consultation. Therapy is client-centered, and yet, here we are in the process, inescapably touched by the heat of the flame. Sometimes it’s messy. Sometimes it’s exhilarating. Always, it’s a bit humbling, isn’t it?
Consultation is both professional and personal. Just like therapy.
Whether you are seeking consult to fill a knowledge gap, improve a skill, or sort through the nuances of a complex case, we’ll do it with curiosity, courage, and a whole lot of love (for ourselves, each other, and the clients/supervisees we serve).
We’re all in the soup together.
